Inspired by the late Ambassador Fanuel Kuzilwa

A Legacy of Healing, Rooted in the Highlands

Gilead Cliff Lodge is more than a retreat, it is a legacy. Founded by the late Ambassador Fanuel Kuzilwa, a son of Mlalo and a lifelong lover of the Usambara Mountains, the lodge carries his vision of hospitality, culture, and renewal.

Born and bred in these highlands, he often said that the Usambara Mountains reflected the biblical Gilead, a place of balm, healing, and restoration. To him, these cliffs, forests, and valleys were not only breathtaking in their beauty, but also sacred in their stillness. They offered the kind of peace that soothes the body and renews the soul.

His passion for his people and their traditions lives on in every stay: from cultural encounters with the village to the warm welcome that greets you at the door. At Gilead Cliff Lodge, guests are invited to experience the highlands as he saw them, rich in beauty, heritage, and the grace of renewal.
